Mayor's Welcome
Dear
Visitor,
Welcome to our beautiful city in the southwestern
corner of Indiana. The City of Boonville is a wonderful
city for raising a family. Our community is the only city
in Warrick County and is the county seat. Boonville was
once comprised of mainly coal miners. The local coal miners
are very few now as compared to years past. Many of our
citizens work at the nearby Alcoa Plant. There continues
to be much farming in the area surrounding the City of Boonville.
The county has an incredible educational
system. We are blessed with two elementary schools, one
Jr. High School, and one High School. The Warrick County
School Corporation offices are located in our city. The
Boonville High School mascot is the Pioneer.
It is professed in our history that Abraham
Lincoln, as a youth, walked from nearby Spencer County to our
city to borrow law books from our local court system.
Boonville was named after Ratliff Boon. Ratliff
Boon was one of the most famous public officials in our history. A
cousin of Daniel Boone, he was most influential in the establishment
of Boonville.
The City of Boonville has a downtown square
setting which has some unique shops as well as the Warrick County
Judicial Center which houses the court system as well as many
of the county offices. Warrick
Publishing publishes a weekly newspaper, the Boonville Standard. St
Mary’s Warrick Hospital is located a few blocks from the
downtown area. The Post Office is ½ block off of
the downtown square. We still have the small town
atmosphere with two locally owned groceries.
WBNL (1540 on your AM dial) Radio Station owned by Ralph Turpen
which is available over the internet and has many listeners nationwide.
Our Warrick County Museum is located a
block off of our downtown square and is a hidden gem.
In July of 2006 we opened our Water Park
in the beautiful City Lake Park complex. Annually we have
many visitors to our park. The beautiful park displays
period lighting with a concrete walking path around the lake
as well as shelter houses and gazebos for family gatherings.
We host Boo in Boonville every year on
Halloween for safe trick or treating and this event draws families
from the surrounding area. more...
