OFFICER TITLES AND DESCRIPTIONS

Chief of Police (Colonel) 
The Chief of Police is the highest-ranking officer in the Police Department. As the chief executive office of The Boonville Police Department, the Chief of Police is responsible for the planning, efficient administration and operation of the Police Department under the authority of the City of Boonville. In this capacity, the Chief of Police directs, plans, and coordinates the enforcement of the ordinances of the City, and the laws of the state and nation for the purpose of protecting persons and property and for the preservation of the peace of the community. 

The Chief of Police is appointed by the Mayor of Boonville, is the Boonville Police Departments Liaison between the Mayor of Boonville and The Boonville Police Department, and attends the Boonville Board of Works meetings to keep that body informed about any issue related to the Department’s operations and to respond to citizens’ complaints or concerns. 

Also, the Chief of Police acts on all matters related to disciplinary issues of the Department’s sworn employees.

Assistant Chief of Police (Major)
The Assistant Chief of Police is the second highest rank in the Police Department and reports directly to the Chief of Police. 

The Assistant Chief is assigned as the commanding officer of major organizational components such as the Patrol Division and Investigations Division. These duties include; the scheduling of all road officers, supervisor of investigations and writing grants for the department to gain funding for equipment and training.  He works directly with the Chief of Police to better serve the community and fulfill their needs.  

In addition to carrying out specific division duties, the Assistant Chief may assume the duties of the Chief of Police in his absence and perform related functions in that capacity. 

Detective
The position of Detective is assigned to the Investigations Division.  A Detective is responsible for responding to the scenes of crimes, conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations, preparing the required investigative reports, apprehending the suspect, preparing the case for a successful prosecution, and testifying in court.  The Detective reports to The Assistant Chief.
